Vomit on carpet - what to clean it with?

My son has had a sickness bug and unfortunately didn't quite make it to the bathroom or bowl in time sometimes so my landing carpet has suffered! I have tried carpet shampoo which I have rubbed in but it still smells awful!! Any suggestions on what I could use on it?

a solution of zoflora disinfectant can help remove smells from carpet

I have used the stuff that is used to clean up after dog and cat accidents with great effect.

bicarb - loads of the stuff . make a paste with water rub in and leave to dry then hoover - miracle stuff.

As the smell comes through the underlay even when shampooed I use febreeze a lot!

Thanks everyone! I will try these suggestions! Have had the windows open today as it is dry and sunny (if freezing!!) and the air smells better but when I shut them later I guess the smell will return.

I actually have some zoflora with fereeze smell so two suggestions in one there!!
