Dye for merino jumper

I've splodged oil on to the front of a pale grey merino jumper and thinking of dying it to cover it up. I've only ever washed it at 30 so assume a cold dye is the way to go. Any recommendations?

Thank you Footle I didn't know animal-based yarn = protein dye.

I've tried dry cleaning. No luck. I adore the shape and style of the jumper so it's worth a try!

Have you tried removing the stain with olive oil? Rub it in well and blot off as much as you can. Then rub in pure soap and wash using the wool programme or by machine. You may need to repeat the soap part if any oil is left.

Thanks Calendula. I haven't tried that. Will give it a go even tho stain is now 2 weeks old...
