Tips to freshen up my house

It's just a bit tired and scruffy, I don't have enough money to paint everywhere which is what is probably needed, although I could probably do the bathroom and kitchen as they are the worst. Even though I clean and Hoover most days , it never smells really fresh .

Cut up a lemon and put it in a bowl of water and microwave for one minute.

Get a dust cloth, spray the radiators with polish and rub them clean.

Buy some lavender or lemon essence and sprinkle on radiators.

Open windows.

Clean curtains.

Buy some 'clean' kitchen candles.

If you have wooden floors buy some almond oil floor wash (Tescos sell it)

Thank you, I've done some of those, almond oil floor wash sounds good though and lemon essence! I might buy a couple of reed diffusers too.

Is it the method almond floor cleaner? If so, it's absoutely gorgeous and makes everything smell like a beautiful posh hotel. In fact I'm hooked on all of the method cleaning range at the moment. They work really well too.

So, I'd definitely second the floor cleaner and also getting the windows open.

A big spring clean, washing everything: skirting boards, windows, cushion covers / soft furnishings where possible, cooker extractor, running a service wash in your washing machine and dishwasher, cleaning the plug holes etc.

Cleaning the oven can can make a big difference too.

Reed diffusers are lovely but choose a smell you love as they can be quite potent to start with.

Definitely second the big spring clean idea. Wittgenstein has give you a great list - make sure you wash down walls with a gentle detergent and hire a carpet cleaner too!

Love the Method stuff and think it's very reasonably priced. Goes a long way too.

If you can repaint some of your areas I think you will see a tremendous difference. I have just began painting our landing which was absolutely filthy- decorating really does make you look at every inch and get it all clean. Good luck.

Hire a Rugdoctor and clean your carpets. Use Persil Small and Mighty - half a measure is enough in the RD tank. Carpets, like curtains and other soft furnishings, hold smells. Open your windows regularly - when you clean is a good time at cold times of the year.

Sugar soap is cheap for cleaning paintwork.

B&M have method products cheap sometimes! I bought the granite cleaner for 79p!
