Can someone help with a DIY question please?

I want to fix something on the wall with a couple of slots on the back to slot over nails/screws (can't think how better to describe it!).
But,given that its a solid object,how can I tell where to position the screws?

you use keyhole plates.

You measure the screws in the wall very carefully, and position the plates to match. It is harder to drill and plug the screw holes so accurately.

A torch and mirror at the side will help.

Once you have got the first one in, the second will be easy.

If you have got slots in the cabinet you can see through, you peer through when you offer the first hole to its screw.

Measure accurately how far down from the top and how far apart the slots on the back of the thing are.
Hold the thing up to the wall and position it where you want it.
Make a small pencil mark at the top of the thing on the wall.
Measure down and across the distance that you measured before.
Use a spirit level to get them level across.

There's already 'plates' in the back that look like keyholes.
Do I just measure up,use a spirit level,and go for it?

I'm a bit I hadn't figured it out now !

I would make a template from stiff cardboard . Cut it the same width as the item and line it up with the top of . Poke holes where the slots are. Offer template to wall and mark. If the height is important make sure you allow for the screw heads to sit at the top of the slots.
I am showing the template that came with our dishwasher door. Hth.

It'd be so much more useful than knowing how to draw and label all the parts of a flower.
