washing machine has left yellow stains all over white clothes how do I get them out?

Hi all,

So I did a white wash, all the clothes I put in were all white and all had no stains on them before they went into the washing machine. After they came out several of my white tops, including a new cotton one, had massive yellow stains on them - only slightly visible when wet but in the daylight when dry are very yellow and stand out very clearly.

I've read online that these have probably been caused by grease from my washing machine - either because the drum needs cleaning or because it's leaking oil due to a mechanical problem, I have found out it is the latter. But I can't find any advice on how I now get these yellow stains out of my clothes.

I'd like to get the stains out as soon as possible and not wait till after the washing machine is repaired or replaced because I'm in a rented property and this could take an age. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get these stains out - online a lot of the tips talk about using a washing machine and I really don't want to put them back in in case they come out with more stains.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

if they are grease stains from a breaking drum bearing, stop using it, as it will only get worse. They tend to be small marks. Washing Soda Crystals are good for removing grease, used with washing powder, at as hot a temperature as the fabric suits.

You may also get metal fragments from the breaking bearing. Unless it is an expensive machine, it will not be an economic repair.

You can buy a grease stain remover from the supermarket. Follow the instructions and then either hand wash them or take them to the launderette.
