Colour run on new dress

I bought a dress (cheap & cheerful) which is black with a white collar. I washed at 30 & now have a grey toned white collar. How can I get it white?

Think it is polyester. If it won't whiten, would it take black dye? Thanks :)

I have that pink vanish powder but not sure it is ok on colours as I haven't used it for anything but whites.

Used colour run remover & it did nothing. Will polyester take black dye? Pissed off!!

I'd take it back personally. If you followed the washing instructions and it still ran then it's not suitable for purpose is it? I once took back a dress because it shrank after only a few washes despite washing according to instructions.

OK, this is a bit fiddly, but here's what I'd try. I can't guarantee it'll work, but it's worth a go!

Soak the white part of the dress but NOT the collar in a load of water with white powder and a whitening agent (e.g. Glowhite) for 15 minutes, then hand wash in hand hot water. (Use gloves!) Keep the collar as dry as you can.

Then once the white is white again, wash it as you did before, but with a colour catcher sheet from Dylon. Hopefully that will seal the colour in.

I hope this works!

I'm confused. The collar is white?

Oh, I'm so sorry icelolly! I totally misread your post! My bad.

In that case, it should be easier - if you soak and wash just the white collar in the whitening powder and Glowhite, you should remove the darker colour. Then when you wash the whole dress, use colour catcher.

Hope it works!
