baby is due soon. we have a tiny kitchen with a washing machine. we don't currently have a dishwasher so thinking that we could put a new dishwasher where the washing machine is, then put the washing machine in an outbuilding outside. is it going to be a big pain having to go outside to do washing all the time?!

Yes. Massive pain. For very very tiny little people they create a lot of washing. I say keep the machine indoors!

Yes. Especially when everything is covered in poo and vomit.

Personally I'd go for the dishwasher over an indoor washing especially of you have a small kitchen (our's is also titchy. Having a Kundry basket you can throw really mucky stuff into and thentake out when you can should be doable. You're not going to be washing each item as it gets mucky anyway. If you are worried about smells, get a nappy bucket and use that instead.

As someone who has a dishwasher inside and washing machine outside. It's very handy to have a dishwasher toddlers bring a lot of dirty dishes cups and things.
In the winter it's a huge pain to go outside to do the washing and I'm always behind, but in the summer it's pretty handy and keep on top of it pretty well also the machine is right beside the washing line.
I would insure your washing machine though unless where your putting it is heated because sometimes they break down outside due to the cold.

So to answer your question get the dishwasher it's well worth it imo.

I have a washing machine, but not a dishwasher (another tiny kitchen here), and a 3mo and a 3yo. No way on earth would I swap out my washing machine for a dishwasher. Id rather do the dishes by hand than have to traipse outside twice a day especially in this weather.

Yep. Keep the washing machine inside. If you're doing lots of washing you might be doing it when it's just you and the baby, and some babies aren't fans of being put down or sleeping in their cot, in which case it would be an absolute faff taking the stuff out to an outbuilding.

Keep the washing machine inside! Washing up by hand might be a pain if you like using a dishwasher, but imo it's much much much less inconvenient than bundling up a baby (then later herding a toddler!) to go outside to do laundry!

I don't have a dishwasher. Don't feel like I need it. By the time you've rinsed, loaded, unloaded, you could have done it by hand.
I use washing machine twice a day at least. I'd leave it where it is.

Same as above. I don't feel a dishwasher saves time. It's nice to have but takes bloody ages and you still have to scrape and rinse anyway. Some things can't go in the dishwasher so needs doing by hand anyway. We had a dishwasher left for us in our tiny cottage. We swapped it for a tumble drier- which is much much more useful to have with children because it does actually save me time not having to hang clothes up to dry and there's no way I can dry a load in an hour or so if it's hanging on radiators.

thanks everyone :) never thought about a tumble dryer! we don't have one of those either! have a heated clothes rack so will plod on with that and see how we go

When dd was born we had a washing machine and no dishwasher. I used to fill the bowl and put some Milton (sterilising fluid) in the water in addition to washing up liquid and then as dishes accumulated pop them in. A teeny drop of Milton really cleans the dishes - and the dishcloth and kills the germs so no worries re soaking in water for ages - and so it was quicker at teatime to then bash through the dishes. In fact I still buy it for wiping down the surfaces. Think I'm a bit addicted to it Great with flasks. I'll stop now So not what you are asking but hopefully a helpful dishes shortcut xxx

Ps get a sling/carrier......only way to get a cuppa and grab a sandwich in the early weeks months never mind do any chores......
