I put mine in the dishwasher and let them dry naturally on the radiator!

i have chucked in machine in the past and its been fine

waht i worry about is drying the toy - if it doesnt get dried well enough they can go mouldy on the inside

best if hung outside to dry in high winds

Spray with Ace, wash on 40 degree wash & dry on rad. If there is a chance that bits may fall off in the wash put into pillow case.

I have often out sick covered "surface sponge clean only" toys in the washing machine on a delicates wash (in a net or pillow case) and then tumble dried them on low - no harm done so far!

bi-carb of soda.. sprinkle it on, leave for a while (I do mine overnight) hover away in the morning!

Thankyou all very much - will try them in pillowcase in machine and keep fingers crossed!

DS has 'Puppy', a really cheap soft toy won at a fun-fair 2 years ago. When puppy got really vile, and ds was going into hospital I tried washing in the machine, and Puppy came out without a problem. Now whenever he smells of wee (ds not totally dry at night yet) Puppy has a little ride in the washer, delicates wash, with a fairly full load (to limit the being chucked against the drum) then he spends the day in the airing cupboard. I won't tumble dry in case his eyes melt !!

I always wash the "surface clean only" ones in the washing machine and dry in the tumble dryer and/or airing cupboard. ok so far

Think clumsymum's tip is good. I ruined 'Diddor' by putting him in the machine - too hot perhaps? but luckily, as he was from ikea, I'd already got a spare. Lost since, of course.
