Advice on cleaning a sticky greasy wire basket, please

ThatBloodyWoman · 11/01/2015 18:35

I have a fruit basket that I can only describe as flexible chip pan basket type wire mesh.
Its pretty tacky and greasy, but also not as robust as it used to be,as its 'vintage'.
It wouldn't withstand scrubbing with a brillo pad,for example.
I'd be grateful for any ideas on non -damaging ways to remove its sticky greasy coating.
Thanks!

Do you have a dishwasher tablet? With rubber gloves on, moisten the tablet and rub it all over the basket. It will start to dissolve so do it in the sink with the plug it and let it soak in the dishwasher detergent water for couple hours. Then wipe with a sponge.

Ooo,I don't,but I could get one!
Thanks Betty !

Lakeland Extractor Hood cleaner. Gentle, yet the best degreaser I've ever come across. I use it on everything in the kitchen.

I use bio hand wash for greasy stuff (like the filter bits in my extractor fan) just dissolve in very hot water in the sink and leave for an hour or so. Good luck

Use sugar soap, just let it sit in the solution for bit and it'll just rinse away. This is really good for cooker hood filters that are the mesh type.

You could soak it in hot water with washing soda crystals, they are excellent at degreasing.

I agre with happyyoni about washing soda crystals - it is magical to watch the grease rise to the top of the bucket with no scrubbing.
