Question about dishwasher

Hi. I recently bought dishwasher and have no experience of them. I followed instructions in setting it up and put water in salt bit followed by salt. Seemed odd as the amount of water they said to put in salt bit meant not much room for salt.
Anyway, had it for a couple of weeks now and read need to be careful doesn't need more salt. Opened up the salt thing and it's full to overflowing with water. Is this right? How do I know if it needs more salt or do I wait for warning light. ? Can I put salt in even though it's over flowing with water ?

Hi - it's completely normal that there is water in there. There is usually some sort of warning light of you need to put salt in when there is none left. Just top up the salt and displace the water.

Did you follow the instructions on how to set the water softness as this will control how much salt you need? We are in a very soft water area and had to programme the current dishwasher to switch off the no salt warning as we don't need to use salt at all - which is not the norm.

The receptacle will overflow with water, quite normal. I usually just pour a couple of mugfuls of salt in and usually wait for the reminder light before I refill and often leave it for quite a while if I forget.

Salt just softens the water a bit. The all in one tabs usually have salt or softener added. I'm more meticulous about rinse aid as it makes thing dry better and without smearing.

Just read that you put water into the salt compartment - have never had to do that, but wouldn't worry.

Haven't put any rinse aid in and only used. 3 in 1 tsblets. Do I need rinse aid? I live in hard water area but haven't had warning light for more salt her but have had light for rinse aid which I've ignored as using 3 in 1?

I use rinse aid alongside 3 in 1 mainly because I get a better drying result.

I use salt and rinse aid alongside all in one tablets as you get a better result. It is correct that you add water when first adding salt to a new dishwasher. I wait until the warning lights go on before topping up. When topping up the salt the salt will displace the water and you just let the salt fill up to the top
