Getting a real Christmas tree out of the house with minimal needle drop?

Does anyone have any cunning tricks for getting a real Christmas tree out of the house without getting needles absolutely everywhere? Our tree is already dropping quite badly.

We burn ours in the garden!

Ooh I used to love it when the tree got burned on my parents' open fire back in the day. Whoosh. The rest of the year we had to make do with the occasional chip-oil soaked kitchen paper for entertainment...

We had a new mattress a couple of days ago so I saved the plastic it was wrapped in and put it over the tree, which we then carried out of the house without the usual needle trail.
Our council will collect ours next week.
