Stupid question, why do we air beds?

You know in the morning, throw back the duvet, remove pillows etc.
Why?

No bed-making in this house because all we have are duvets (i.e. no top sheets or quilts or blankets).

Duvets are pulled right back though in order to, er, air the beds. I guess I just don't like the idea of all that warm, smelly moisture staying under there Blush. Duvets pulled back, curtains and windows opened every morning is the expectation here. Me or DP last as long as we can and the close windows, plump up pillows and straighten the duvets.

To prevent your bed and bedding becoming too damp and shanky as others have said. I'm a slovenly housewife (not got the time or inclination as work f/t) but the one thing I do do is air the beds daily given I throw back the duvet and don't put it back until the evening when drawing the curtains to keep the warmth in.

I do.
dustmites like it warm and damp (sweat and condensation from breathing) which is bad news for asthmatics and people with eczema.

I throw the duvet ovef the end of the bed and open the windows wide whilst I brush teeth etc.

to dry off sweat (because we all sweat in the night). Don't know about you, but I don't wash the bedding every day!

throw back covers, open windows. Come back 10 mins later, close windows, make bed. Job done.

any able-bodied bed user aged over about 6 can do this. (with possible caveats for the windows)

I air my bed every day!

By never making it

Bunbaker · 02/01/2015 13:51

I think beds need more than 10 minutes to air. Think of how much sweat the mattress absorbs.

Our quilts get thrown back and pillows turned when we get up, and that's it until bedtime.

The sheets feel so much more fresh when you get into bed at night, if you've aired the bed.
