dh discovered something amazing today!!

You know the horrid soap scummy stuff on the glass in your shower stall? Well.... Dh used one of those magic eraser things you buy from home bargains. And it was Magical! Shiny clear glass, with no chemicals, or scrubbing, or standing inside getting wet. Just a bit of water on the thing, a quick rub down, and that was it. Sparkling. Am absolutely overawed by it.

Ooooooooh! I shall get one. How much did it cost? I love Home Bargains.

Noo. It hasn't scratched it at all.

They are cheap as chips too. Under a pound for two.

They're great, but don't think they're chemical free if I remember correctly.

Are you in a hard water or soft water area?

Soft water.

AFAIK they're just a melamine sponge, no cleaning product added. Damned good things.

They make me cough. Really violently.

I have no idea why.

After the third attempt, with at least a week between each try, so not like it was a cold or anything and just a coincidence that I coughed a lot when using the sponge, I gave up.

Really annoying becuase I bought a four pack and the bits I managed to do before I started hacking my head off were things I'd be trying to get clean for ages.

Maybe one of those dust masks would help ? I think perhaps teeny tiny particles come of it and float into the air when I rub, and my throat has a particular dislike of whatever they are made of. Or something more scientific.

Ooo, I've got loads of those somewhere in the house. dhs the ensuite shower is terrible ATM. Dh can go give it a scrub.

Can someone link to this amazing product please? Cleaning the shower is my most hated job - I scrub the loo and sink twice a week but the shower is very , er, neglected.

White vinegar will clean the glass too.

Were you using them dry or damp Mutters? sounds horrid.

I buy these from Amazon - they're sold in shops as magic erasers, but on amazon are sold as melamine foam.

I buy mine in packs of 30, for about £8...

Was this on a frosted shower screen or clear?

Mine is frosted so wondering if I could use one, or if it would damage it.

Oh yes those things are amazing! You can literally use them on anything, i use them on dds sticky handprints that seem to appear on my walls everyday!!
and a little bit cut off and put in the toilet bowl overnight leaves a sparkling toilet!

Hmmm -They do scratch though -just very very fine. If you were too enthusiastic or did it frequently I think you would damage the glass....
I used them for cleaning finger prints off walls etc..washable vinyl paper and emulsion painted walls... usually the same areas. Before I wiped with a damp cloth and then dealt with stubborn bits with one, then I just started giving them a quick swipe with the eraser -then spending a bit longer over stubborn marks. First noticed it on the paper - area was a lighter colour - looked on the emulsion wall and it was darker - then I realised that it was the darker paint underneath showing though ...not dramatic but definite. Still use them but with more caution now!

They are great for the cooker hood and for cleaning trainers as well strangely enough. Someone on here also recommended them for cleaning marks off a limestone fireplace too.

Behoho is that getting grease off a cooker hood?
Best thing for that is a damp cloth dipped in dry bicarb of soda. You have to wipe the bicarb off after but it is amazing (Also fantastic for cleaning greasy dusty bleurghhh you get on the top of kitchen cupboards etc -yes I have old wallpaper on mine but for the edges you can't cover)
