Radiator water stained walls

Our radiator has spurted black water over the painted wall whilst being fixed. Any ideas how to clean it? I've left it to dry then tried brushing it off but made no difference....

no.

after you have sponged it, the black stain is permanent

stain block and repaint.

Thanks piglet, that's what I feared...

if you damp-sponge it immediately, you can usually get some off, if the paint is silk or gloss.

It will stain matt or eggshell worse.

Carpet and other fabrics will fade after repeated shampooing, but will never be clean.

If you are fond of plumbing, you can fit a system filter and use a cleaning chemical to get most of the black sludge out of the system, so the water will be clean. It is iron oxide arising from corrosion of the radiators and/or boiler and can cause sediment blockages, so is undesirable. There are other chemicals to prevent it happening.

Piglet - thanks. The radiator hadn't been maintained by the previous owner properly so the water came out in a fountain and sprayed everywhere. Hoping that never happens again!
