Teach me to FLY the MN way

My house is a sty. A combination of laziness, an 18 mo, a 3 yo, and DP.

Looked on the FLY site before DS2 was born but the organisation and cleaning ALL the time scared me. I have tomorrow morning to 'fix' my house. ie when DS1 is at preschool and DS2 is asleep as DP has some clients coming over after lunch.

HELP!

(btw, am not doing it now coz need to vac which would wake the boys (live in a maisonette - kitchen is downstairs, everything else up) and can't tidy with DP around as his very presence is messy!

Hi, not sure how much you can do before clients come over but join us on our daily thread. Best way to start is to go to Baby Steps on the fly site.

Its not about cleaning all the time, no way . I hate cleaning but found that I do need routines and a purpose to get things done. I am only 3 weeks in and I am seeing such a difference.

Its bite sized cleaning really, with good regular rountines that become second nature and keep things ticking over.

Most of us happily ignore the testimonials and religious references, I have renamed the weekly home blessing my Monday Home Fix or Back to Rights session.

Perhaps you need Crisis Cleaning tommorow . This is a quick fix only and not what we normally do.

MerlinsBeard · 11/10/2006 12:08

well house is done (ish) DS2 didn't sleep, so blitzed kitchen and lounge while he grizzled and bac'd everywhere. threw some toilet duck in the loo and sprayed air freshner everywhere!

As long as i remember to close the bedroom door (next to lounge) no one will know what it was like earlier!!

Will look at fly lady properly when i have more of a chance. Their crisis cleaning is good but odd to keep going back to a room.

I don't like the Americany way with Flylady.....just sooooooo very annoying. Sick of all the emails too have tried to cancel them twice.

batinshoes · 11/10/2006 12:13

a lot of us on the fly thread have cancelled the emails and just check the web site for the daily mission and weekly zone.

MerlinsBeard · 11/10/2006 12:14

i don't want millions of emails can't i just look at the site every now and then? do i have to join?

You don't have to join. I almost never even look at the site, now.
Just pop into the thread every day, and take what you want from it.

I do the sink shining, the weekly room, daily mission, and am doing 15 min bursts of whatever needs doing the most.

I've also written a timetable of weekly jobs (FL will want you to do a whole book!)

batinshoes · 11/10/2006 12:20

lol

start with babysteps

Then move to weekly zone

And check kelly's missons

Failing that just check the MN fly thread and get some inspiration from there.

I now have a Morning and a Bedtime routine, stuff I do as I go along, like bringing washing and mug downstairs in morning. Quick swish round loo before I do my teeth and then swish round sink.

I have made out a weekly rota of jobs to be done, like Monday catch up on laundry, and quick wizz round whole house (no more than 1 hr),
Tuesday I change either our bed or kids, clean fish tank, clean a window etc.

Each week we do a bit more in that weeks zone, bit of a deep clean really. Once I am up and running properly the weeks zone will need less and less stuf done as it comes around again.
