There is paint peeling from the inside of my oven

What can I do? Over the last few weeks there have been little black paint flecks appearing on my toast, and today I finally plucked up the courage to peer inside the oven. The whole 'ceiling' is peeling away in very fine pieces.
Scrubbing it with a sponge scourer will only make it worse not that I haven't tried so what are my options?
We moved in to the house recently so I can only guess that the oven is about 5 years old. It has a self cleaning function but I have no idea how that works.
Thanks in advance

it sounds more like burnt on food coming off rather than paint. i usually leave my grill on for a while and that can help burn it off. then use something to clean it off with.

It definitely looks like paint. It's shiny and metallic.

Nah - it's burnt on food. Run the self cleaning programme - you can find the manual for the oven online.

Finally tracked down the manual so I'll give that a try.

Did you sort out your oven? The same is happening to mine. The paint is coming off the top and the side of the oven - metallic black paint.

Shiny black stuff coming off an oven is burned greasy dirt.

Unless you can see bare metal behind it (which I never have).
