Does anyone else steam clean their toilet brush?

After cleaning the toilet I blast the toilet and brush with the steam cleaner. Does anyone else do that or am I bordering OCD?

The way to clean a toilet brush after cleaning the loo is to throw some bleach into the loo and stick the toilet brush in there as well. The bleach will kill off anything nasty and leave you with a clean brush.

Ughhh that sounds disgusting.

Surely the germs blast off it then go everywhere.
How do you clean the steam cleaner afterwards?

I just buy cheap toilet brushes and replace them fairly regularly.

I do steam the loo (not every time I clean the loo, it's usually just a clean and then limescale remover as our water here is so hard) but brush gets a soak in bleach in it's holder about once a week.

I saw this brush recommended on another mumsnet toilet brush thread.

I think if you are going to use a brush, this is the only one that could be cleaned. Bit of kitchen roll and spray, wipe it down, flush kitchen roll and it's done. I still don't want one but I could see it working.

I might if I could do it outside somewhere the blasted poo particles wouldn't bother me ! I'd prefer to blast inside of loo with steam instead of using a brush in the first place .
I'm confused though, if you did do this why would you need to clean the steam clean ? If you are just holding it a couple of inches away from the brush and blasting why does it need cleaning. Not that it's difficult to drop the nozzle in bleach or Milton to clean it, but why would you need to ?

hot steam will melt the bristles.

you could plunge it up and down in a small bucket of GP cleaner, or inside the (clean) WC pan.

BTW if you have a limescale problem, put a Parazone Bleach (not bloo or yellow) Cistern block in the cistern, it will slowly dissolve lime from the cistern, the rim and the pan. You won't believe me, so take a photo inside the cistern the day you drop in the first one, and another when you replace it a month later.

Urgh. Just buy the 70p or so ones from ikea and throw them every few weeks.

Finally, a non-use for steam cleaners! They are great, and I love any labour-saver, but perhaps going too far is part of the over-enthusiasm for steam cleaners that makes the rest of the world think we are mad.

Do you mean you have a steam cleaner for just the loo and the brush, or do you mean you have a steam cleaner to clean the steam cleaner? (it is late and I'm confused )

God, just swish the brush around in some bleach every now and then!

This obsession with loo brushes is insane. Yes, they're probably harbouring foul bacteria. No, it doesn't matter, as you're only using them somewhere where you sit your arse and excrete more foul bacteria (sorry to be disgusting, but it's a fact).

You don't use the loo brush in your kitchen, therefore it doesn't need to be scrupulously bacteria-free. It's to keep your toilet looking and smelling clean...as in, clean enough for something you poo in.

And you don't need to keep chucking them out, either - think of the environment!

I'd be worried about spreading micro particles of bacteria around the place. Maybe onto the steam cleaner itself.

Uugh. I really hate loo brushes. Always have. Mn is the only place I have found others who feel the same.

I clean the toilet with gloves, bleach and toilet roll.

I haven't seen that one yet, although small children do seem obsessed with my kitchen pedal-bin, which grosses me out enough.

I know it's been done to death here, but I honestly have no idea how people get the toilet bowl clean without a brush. Not just the sides, I mean deep in the bowl, at the base, and the side bits where it disappears into the back. You'd have to get your hand in there with a scourer (foul).

I get loads from IKEA and chuck them out after a couple of weeks.

I use those Duck Fresh Brush things. Couldn't stand having a toilet brush
