how many towels do you think are adequate for a family of four?

I think we have far too many towels. DH is loathe to get rid of any.

How many do you have?

Too many! But I like having lots of different hand towels for all the loos - 4 beach towels, 8 hand towels, 2 bath sheets, 4 bath mats, swimming hooded towels for kids, and about 18 bath towels in assorted colours....

4 hand towels (assuming 2 loos), 2 bath towels per person (maybe 3 if have long hair), 1 swimming towel pp, 1 beach towel pp
4 guest bath towels.

Ummm not sure I could count.
Beach towels 10 ish??
Bath towels prob about 15?
Hand /hair towels about 10?

We have three swimming towels each and about 10 bath towels.

2 bath towels each .
2 small towels each
1 beach towel each
3 towels for downstairs loo
4 guest towels
And a few spare ..
So about 30 towels in all

I have been clearing ours out

Two lovely big bath sheets for dh and I

Two hand towels to alternate for downstairs toilet

Set of six towels for main bathroom

Baby towels (they were gifts) four

Even after clearout I have a stash of another five or six but might clear tomorrow

But we also have a stash of emergency/sick/dog/defrosting freezer towels.

Why so many swimming towels?!

Three competitive swimmers in the house each swimming three times a week :)

I'd say 2 hand towels per bathroom/kitchen

Per person:
2 bath towels
1 swimming/beach towel
1-2 hand towels if long haired

That'd do us - we got rid of loads this year. Will use the spare ones for guests.

We have a bathroom and a shower room, so we have 2 bath towels per person for each of those, they just get washed and rotated so I don't see a need for any more. Plus 2 or 3 handtowels for each bathroom and about 4 for the kitchen.
Plus three beach/swimming towels which hardly get any use. And 3 sets of bath and hand towel for overnight guests.
Oh and an old hand towel under the sink for when I empty the washing machine filter because it dribbles, and a couple of spare old ones in the 'dustsheet' bag!

We have no storage. At all. So one each.

We've got 4 hand towels and 6 bath towels. But I'm washing them all the time and really need more.

In use, we have 5 bath towels and 10 hand towels. We have a few scruffy ones stashed away for emergencies, but lack the space to have them constantly accessible.

2 towels each plus 2 spare for guests.
2 hand towels
1 bath mat
I've found this is plenty.

plus a swimming towel each which I keep in our swimming kit.
