Have I ruined my wine stained cushion covers?

Unfortunately I spilt some red wine on two cushion covers. I immediately took them off the cushions and put some bleach on the stains (the cushions are creamy white) and after about 5 mins put them through a 40C wash. Unfortunately the stain (although faded) is still visible. I am thinking that perhaps I shouldn't have tried bleaching them first. I have now tried washing them again but to no avail. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks.

Bleach is extreme if you haven't tried cold water to start with. I would try bleaching the whole cover, not just the stained area and washing again. Apart from anything else you could end up with the stained bit being bleached a different colour once the wine has gone.
