I've caught a few of the Anthea progs and have learnt that:

Putting a stick of chalk in a box with silver jewellery will stop it tarnishing.
Use a white slice of bread to catch broken bits of glass
Use gin to clean your diamonds
Use vinegar and or Bicarb to clean absolutely everything
To clean silk/dried flour. Put it in a big paper bag with a bit of salt in and give it a good shake.

Do you have any great ones to share.

Tape pieces of carpet to the bottom of your shoes that way you never need to buy carpet or hoover again and your feet will always be comfy on their very own shagpile.

chestnutter · 03/10/2006 13:46

LOL ledodgy!! Very austin powers!!!

mazzystar · 03/10/2006 13:47

Get a cleaner

Sorry that's not in the spirit of the thing is it. Works every time though.

aDAdOnMumsnet · 03/10/2006 13:48

Toothpaste is the best thing for cleaning brass. Mind you we dont really have any brass to clean here!

Northerner · 03/10/2006 13:50

Buy your child a dustbuster so they can 'play' at hoovering up their crumbs

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 03/10/2006 14:14

Don't get your emeralds wet and make sure you wear your pearls regularly to stop them getting dull.
Have your maid cut green scrubbers in half.

southeastastralplain · 03/10/2006 14:16

RTKangaMummy · 03/10/2006 14:17

Don't wear pearls with perfume on

Megglevampire · 03/10/2006 15:45

Eh why the pearls and no perfume?

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 03/10/2006 15:56

Have never actually known silver jewellery get tarnished TBH. Silver plated maybe but that's more to do with perfume and hairspray corroding the plate.

RTKangaMummy · 03/10/2006 19:10

Because the perfume makes the pearls slightly disintegrate and spoils them

From the alcohol in the perfume

Piffle · 03/10/2006 19:13

Don't ever buy jewellery or solicit it from loved ones
that way you'll never have to clean it

Skribble · 03/10/2006 22:24

Ok any tips for those of us not dripping in pearls and gold .

Baby wipes for cleaning leather.

Sheila shine for super shiney taps, sinks, and other surfaces, gives a protective coating.

prettymum · 03/10/2006 22:27

use perfume to get ink stains off leather sofas!! dd drew all over our cream sofa with black pen, my paul smith perfume got it all off!!!

arfishymeau · 03/10/2006 23:28

Dishwasher tabs to clean jacuzzi baths. Works amazingly.

mamamaaargh · 04/10/2006 03:47

If you have wooden floors & a toddler who loves to push things around, give them a swiffer - my 12 month old 'cleans' our floors everyday as does his 15 month old friend who come to play (& clean) in the afternoons!

2 babies + 2 swiffers = marginally fewer crumbs/ thrown food on the floor, 2 happy kids & 1 happy mummy!

mamamaaargh · 04/10/2006 03:48

Oh, and if you spill oil (or drop a whole bottle of it) on the floor, pour salt on and leave it. It turns into a gel & can be easily cleaned up

eidsvold · 04/10/2006 04:57

train your almost 2 yo to enjoy cleaning up any spills she makes. ( dd2 threw a tantrum cause I wiped up her spill the other day!!)

baby wipes also remove marks from walls.

nailpolish remover removes superglue residue.

batinshoes · 04/10/2006 07:31

WD40 gets rid of glue from masking tape and any other old adhesives...

schneeblysteinsmonster · 04/10/2006 07:46

use vinegar and newspaper to polish your glass/mirrors.

eidsvold · 04/10/2006 07:53

freshen dishwasher with bicarb of soda - fill up powder dispenser and sprinkle on the bottom - run through a quick wash.

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 04/10/2006 19:49

Buy one of these family organiser calendars, they're ace even if you only have one tiny baby (they have social lives too you know) and it's for charidee. Week to view so loads of room per day but only 5 columns so if you have a big family you might need 2 calendars
