Ironing board cover

This could be the most boring ? ever but I have just opened a new ironing board cover and it has strings and a plastic key looking thing which I assume is for fastening or tightening the strings.

Never seen one before - anyone know how to use it?

I think you put the cover over the board and pull the loose ends of the string to get a good fit then the plastic key holds the loose ends of the strings in place. You can hold the plastic bit and pull the strings good and tight without attempting to knot them together, which is often impossible to do tightly.
