Am I mad to think that a hob should last at least ten years, if not more?

We renovated our kitchen just over six years ago and I got a new AEG induction hob at the time - it's just blown up! Something popped and sparked in it when I switched it on yesterday and DH says there's an electrical bit blown in it. AIBU to think that a reasonably expensive appliance should last longer than six years? I remember my mum complaining when her 27 year old Hoover finally gave up the ghost!

I want to contact AEG to see what they think about it, DH thinks I would be wasting my time ... what do you think?

Contact them! We are currently on 15 years

Our Neff induction hob is 10 years old and I was rather gutted when the oven (fitted at the same time), died last year. Totally agree that six years is pretty rubbish, Hmm

Well, I've emailed them ... Will see what the response is!
