Removing coffee stains from cream carpet

a full cup of coffee spilt on our carpet yesterday evening by accident prone MIL - so upset as it is only a month old.

I mopped up the liquid straight away and applied Vanish carpet stain remover, but this morning there are still dark stains. Any tips would be much appreciated as there is no way we could afford a new carpet.

Try using soda water or just fizzy water on the stain and have towels to hand to blot up the moisture. The fizz will lift the coffee out of the carpet fibres. If it was a whole cup of coffee it might take quite a while and you need to let the fizzy water penetrate the carpet.

I find standing on the towels, using my body weight to draw the moisture out is effective.

Unfortunately, things like this are a real pain because you need to get as much of the wet stain out as possible.

This might end up being an insurance claim if you have accidental damage cover.
