My living room is horrible,it needs painting (dh taking kids off tomorrow so will tackle it then) unfortunately we rent this house so the most i am willing to do is paint of the aful textured wallpaper,in the cream its already painted in,i think any other colour would look awful.

We need new sofas, they are coming today and it will be a relief to get rid of these ones as they are horrid, but very comfy! The new ones (well, new to us) are still brown leather but a nicer shape and colour. We have 5 kids under 7 so brown leather is a practical option for us.

2yr old brok the tv with one of his older brothers dinosaurs at the weekend so we are using this small one at the moment, big one will be back when insurance comes through!

Once we have a new sofa and its painted (and tidy!) i will post another pic and i would love some advice on how to brighten it up a bit.

Im a bit scared of colour!

I dont know if you can. You would need to go on to the internet and do it from the desktop site

I'm on my phone, but not the app - can you see a paper clip icon under where you type your message? If so, click on that and you should be able to attach a photo.

Hiya. I used to have the textured wall paper, and you seem to be right about painting it the same colour as I found it hard work to paint evenly. The new paint though will / should definitely brighten it up, and if you can afford a little extra on the paint, I think its Dulux that does the new "light and space" paint is brilliant.

I have a brown sofa and would love throws/cushions with an orange colour in that may add a bit of cheer.

My dd has lovely cream kind of tall rectangular lampshades that plug in. They are like a kind of paper lantern but very tall - about 3 or 4 feet - in the evening or the day, they throw out some lovely glow in a room that otherwise lacks a lot of daylight.

In the hall way, we've got a lovely lampshade thats like dangly crystals set in a frame and it throws light in patterns. Asda has some plain or coloured ones for about 20 pounds I think. In the day time the day light just shines through them and they make a difference in what would be a drab hallway.

Bowls of lemons / oranges also add brightness or maybe some flowers? Maybe one of those tall vases with some flowers you like, either real / fake?
