Argh.. My rug stinks!

DD1 is coming to the end of potty training but had an accident (wee) on the rug 3 days ago. I've scrubbed it but it bloody stinks of ammonia and, dare i say it, a little bit fishy. I've used carpet cleaner, bio washing powder, and I can't understand why it still smells so much. I've tried drenching it, i've part dried it with a towel and now it is air drying, in situ.

Is there anything else i can do? I can still smell eau de stink..

Did you use hot water to wash? That can set the smell in.

Try sprinkling on bicarbonate of soda, leave for a bit then vacuum.

I always used cold water with a bit of fairy liquid and a good slug of white vinegar on wee- vinegar neutralises the smell. Soak up as much as you can before cleaning it too.

Obv wait until it's dry before using bicarbonate.

Get some pet accident cleaner - I like the Simple Solutions one best

WeAreGroot · 22/10/2014 20:07

CMOT beat me to it. Simple Solutions Urine Destroyer is magical stuff.

I'm definitely getting some of that pet stuff then! Fab, thank you.

And yes, i did use hot water... Gah.

Typically we have the HV visiting tomorrow so i've stocked up on reed diffusers until it dries out properly or i can get some of that pet stuff on it!

Thanks everyone Thanks

how big is it? Would it fit in your washing machine?

TheFantasticFixit · 23/10/2014 23:28

Sadly not, it's a large, wool, living room rug. Her bedroom ones have been saved a couple of times by the washing machine. Bloody potty training.. Argh
