Cleaning... ehrm... toys

Have name changed for this, but am a regular poster...

So I normally clean certain toys after each use with a specialist cleaning wipe from Ann Summers.

However after a rather fun evening with DH, which included sharing said toys I got a rather nasty case of thrush Blush I did clean the toys before we swapped over Blush Blush Blush

Could I ask what other people use to clean theirs with?

You could put them in the dishwasher, or just give them a good soapy wash in the sink after use

SharingTheRabbit · 19/10/2014 21:05

Wouldn't that ruin the batteries though?

Take the batteries out

MILLYmo0se · 19/10/2014 21:06

The thrush wouldn't have been caused by germs as such though ? More through irritation, too much em 'fun'

RogueV · 19/10/2014 21:07

Most are waterproof anyway

ilovepowerhoop · 19/10/2014 21:08

you would fry the electrics if you put them in water so i wouldn't put them in the dishwasher. You could wash them at the sink without immersing them fully in the water i.e. keep water away from the battery compartment

NoArmaniNoPunani · 19/10/2014 21:12

You should put condoms over toys if you are using them for both bums and fannies.

SharingTheRabbit · 19/10/2014 21:20

Grin Armani. Yes hadn't thought of condoms.

Good ol fashioned soap and water, will that be enough? I thought the disinfectant wipes would be better.

As an aside, when I was being examined by the Practice Nurse she said "My goodness that's a big hole". Turns out she was talking about my sock, did worry me though for a minute

its what you use on your hands after the toilet so surely should be good enough for the toys too. I dont like the thought of disinfectant near my intimate areas tbh

NoArmaniNoPunani · 19/10/2014 21:26

Condoms are less likely to interrupt play too, you can just slip them off and dispose of them later rather than keep getting up to go to the bathroom to wash arse juice off your toys

PotOfYoghurt · 19/10/2014 21:26

Just be careful with regard to what they're made out of. It's the silicone ones soap can damage it.

juneybean · 19/10/2014 21:27

Hahaha at big hole!!!

HerrenaHarridan · 19/10/2014 21:33

I just use baby wipes. I always gave a packet in the bedside drawer.

Yy to condoms if swapping between bum and vagina, I wouldn't worry about it going from vagina to bum but anything going back the other way needs condom/ thoroughly cleaned.

Tbh I have separate ones partly for hygiene resins and partly because they are differently shaped.

HerrenaHarridan · 19/10/2014 21:33

Btw op I love that you chose good house keeping for this thread :)

Thanks everyone for your replies. Yes I guess a disinfectant may be a bit harsh on the sensitive areas. Don't fancy another trip to the doctors any time soon! I freaked when DH brought them back out of the red room of pain drawer last night, all I could think of was those nasty little germs. That's why I posted on good housekeeping. I'm sure Mrs Beeton would have had some sound advice. Or Kim and Aggie Grin

I'm off to buy condoms (well in the morning) and will be using soap and water inbetween I think from now on!
