Fridge woes

Hello those who are more domestically clued up than me !

Two problems with our fridge -

  1. pools of water collecting in the salad boxes at the bottom - is this caused by the fact I can wearing / small splits on the seals ? If yes ( seems sensible!) can I replace these easily?

  2. almost more upsettingly - we have had some strange marks appear on the surface - any idea why and whether I can get rid of them? Not a great photo but thought it might help diagnosis!

Thanks for any help - really not looking to buy a new fridge but the puddles are getting very time consuming!

The gutter or drainpipe might be blocked or misplaced. You may need to look at the instructions. If lost you can probably download them from the manufacturers website.

I don't recognise the marks, but stand back to show where they are, and the scale of the photo.

Are they on plastic, or on metal? Is it stainless steel?

This might be obvious so don't be offended but it wasn't to me until my mum showed me. There is a little hole at the back of your fridge. If water us collecting, chances are this hole is blocked. Poke it with something to clean it out, give the bottom a wipe and see if that fixes the water problem.

The marks look like you've maybe cleaned it with something corrosive? Try baby oil on it, see if that makes them fade a little.

Don't worry Provemewrong I am not offended. Grin DH now tells me this is the problem but that his attempts to clear it don't work. So think we need to get the manual out and if we can't sort it get an expert out.

As for the marks - it is On the stainless steel exterior - and I am worried my cleaner has used something she shouldn't on it but have no idea what that might have been - they are normally better at keeping it shiny than I am.

those marks on stainless will be caused by wiping it with an aggressive chemical cleaner, possibly a bleach or limescale kitchen spray.

They will rub off with a stainless steel cleaner on a cotton rag.

If necessary there are other things you can use.

When cleaning stainless, only rub to and fro in the direction of the brushing, preferably over the entire surface. Never rub in circles as the marks will always show.

Once it is clean, I recommend rubbing it clean with a damp cotton rag and a little WUL if greasy. Polish off with a clean damp soft cotton cloth and there will be no watermarks. Old vests are good.

If your fridge is like my M*e, there should be a a metal plate at the back that drains just about where the veg boxes are. At the bottom there is a hole about the size of a small fingertip. I've had to dig a blueberry out in the past. I've also had soggy boxes if I have let them touch it.

Try using some cotton buds or a pipe cleaner if you don't have a suitable washing brush.

Re the outside, it might be worth ringing the customer helpline for suggestions. I've spoken to some fairly sensible humans when I've needed to order spares.
PigletJohn's suggestion is a good one.
