Steam cleaner for rug

My DP won't let me get the rug I want for the front room as he says it will be hard to clean. I could steam clean it easily but wondered what mumsnetters would recommend for this job. I can't spend too much as the rugs expensive and Ideally it would clean the hard kitchen floor too for value for money.

Any suggestions?

Get a one that takes tap water. Mine doesn't and distilled water isn't the cheapest.

Other than that they're basically the same imo.

I have to steam cleaner didn't work that well on my rug.

However ...

Today I bought some Vanish powder cleaner - the one in a big bag that you shake over the rug / carpet.

Brought my rather grubby cream rug up a treat. Didn't take too long to do either.
