What can I use to connect bed slats?

Hopefully someone will be able to help.

I have a very old single bed (but not standard size). The bed and slats are still in excellent condition but the "strapping" which connects the slats together has become brittle and is perishing, it was made of something like a really thick rubber tape and stapled to the slats.

I have looked into buying a whole new set of connected stats (even though there is nothing wrong with the slats themselves) but as the bed is not a standard size none of them will fit.

Thanks

Some webbing might work, the kind that pushchair/highchair straps are made from. You can usually buy it on the market or eBay would probably have it. Just cut to length and staple on next to the original to keep the spacing between the slats equal.

If the frame is wooden, you can just screw the slats directly on to the frame.

luggage staps and staple gun?

You can buy webbing from an upholstery shop or you could even try petersham ribbon from a haberdashers.

stretch webbing is sold for repairing saggy sofas.

If no upholstery shop, try fleabay.
