Can anybody recommend a decent, relatively cheap compact vacuum cleaner?

Our 1000yo only slight exaggeration compact dyson is slowly dying so we're going to need to replace it soon.

We live in a small flat, one compact room living/kitchen area, a small bedroom and passage/entry and we keep pet rodents, so the usual substrate bedding/paper/fabric scraps/etc associated with them to be hoovered up.

Any recommendations? I'm not keen on a handheld with an extension, I use those at work and whilst they work fine, they're quite heavy and require a lot of effort for me to use/hold and hurts my hand/arm, so something like this is preferable:

TIA

You can't do better than a Henry for everything you've just said you need. Not the cheapest, but powerful, reliable and goes forever.

2nd the nomination for a Henry. I've one through 3 vacuum cleaners in 5 years, including which best buys. Finally, FINALLY, I've got one that actually cleans. Get the turbo brush too.

Thank you both :) I will look into a Henry. I've used one for work before and find them okay, it may be a little too bulky but I'll measure our storage space and find out.

the cheapest place i found them was on the company's own website: numatic or something.

Don't bother with bosch. that was my Which Best Buy one. it was great for the first month and then it gradually got worse and worse (despite a visit from the engineer) until it wasn't worth the effort of plugging it in.

Interesting to know, thanks :) I think that the Henry might be too big with is a PITA though. It's definitely one of the bigger compacts unfortunately. I will have a browse of other brands.
