HELP... DH has ruined my stainless steel cooker top...

Left DH alone whilst I visited my mum yesterday. Came home late and he announced... 'dont worry about anything, I've done ALL the cleaning'. Great I think and go to bed. Today... argh... got home from work... went to kitchen to do dinner....HE HAS CLEANED THE BRAND NEW STAINLES STEEL COOKER HOB TOP WITH A PAN SCRUB!!!! It now resembles a well used ice rink.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get rid of the millions of scratches and restore it?? I'm feeling almost tearful. He is due home in the next half hour and I want to scream at him, but am not in the mood for a row. Help MN-ers.

You might be able to claim on insurance? Possibly...

Oh dear. What a mess, But he meant well...I have removed all scourers from our kichen for this very reason- except Vileda Wave, which are v thorough but don't scratch.

oh no does baby oil minimise scratching?

themoon66 · 25/09/2006 18:52

I tried the baby oil trick... it works a bit, but it still looks awful really. I know he meant well, but ...... deep down I want to put my hands around his throat.

new CIF product out that polishes and cleans stainless steel - not used it , but sounds like it might gently 'exfoliate' the steel!!! worth a try.............! typical, DH trying to be helpful, and yet.....

Blu · 25/09/2006 18:56

Call the manufacturers in the morning and see if they have an idea?

themoon66 · 25/09/2006 18:58

lulumama.... love the idea of the cif thing... any idea what it's called? I'll nip in tesco in my lunchbreak tomorrow.

Am definitely throwing away all the pan scrubbers (its those little square green ones). I will hide one in a place only I know for the scrubbing of pans only.

not sure! one of those 'does what it says on the tin' packages, though, probably called 'stainless steel clean and polish' , grey ish shiny bottle and green lid??? you'll find it...
