best shaped cereal bowls for the dishwasher?

Hi,
We are finally the proud owners of a dishwasher- woo hoo.

Cereal bowls are driving me a little insane though. We had some Emma Bridgewater ones which I have hidden in the back of the cupboard as the base had a cup shape that held all the water.

The other ones we have are just the bog standard deep bowls- these just seem to take up loads of space as they lie face down on the top drawer so can only fit 3 in a line and maybe a couple tilted up a bit between the side and the middle spikes.

Does anyone have better shaped bowls that would actually go in the rack bit in the centre at the top? Or should I be loading it differently?

First world problems...

I think the best ones are the old traditional shaped bowls ( _/ sort of thing, but shallower), but can't find any. Our everyday set of crockery is chipped and depleted, and I would love a replacement, but don't want 'cup' shaped bowls for exactly this reason. They all seem so big as well. DS already has half a box of cereal for breakfast - a bigger bowl would be disastrous Grin

This is such a pain in the butt. The thing is the old style bowls just aren't deep enough for us so what we tend to do is just share bowls in the morning (I always eat after DH anyway) so at least there are less to go in each time we put the dishwasher on. We have these and they aren't great for stacking in the diswasher (nor in the cupboard tbh) but they are good for the actual eating things part :-D

I was about to throw out the kids melamine bowls and make them use big ones but will just keep them for the moment since they go in more easily.

Glad it is not just me that struggles- I will keep my eye out for 'flatter' bowls Grin

I put them in the top but angled across the spikes so they rest on each other while still exposing the interior to the water jets.

Very artistic. Grin

Anyone that could invent a dishwasher friendly cereal bowl would have my undying gratitude.

it didnt turn out quite how I wanted it Grin. I want a drawing app for mumsnet please so I can do a true artists impression of bowls in a dishwasher.

My Denby ones go in the bowl rack but I can only do 3 rather than the 5 the rack has space for as otherwise they never get clean.

I love my dishwasher but I also hate it with a passion. I'm now on my 4th (different houses) and they're all fairly crap at getting things clean. At least 1 wash in 3 ends up with dried on particles on half of the load. Pisses me off no end!
