New roomba keeps getting stuck in same place...

Thick rug, low sofa.. It can get in and out under the sofa from one side, but from the front there's a thick rug, it just stalls there. This is it's first day.
Will it learn to go under the sofa from the side, or am I in a position where it's a choice, either the rug, or the roomba?!

(Can I make the rug flatter?!)

Can you wedge something under the sofa - a board game or old amazon box maybe - to stop it going under? Someone on here suggested swimming noodle. No idea if it'll learn, ours is an older model so it won't.
