How would i get rid of smokey smell from jacket?

I bought a waterproof jacket in a charity shop today. Was really pleased with I, perfect for dog walking. Took it home and realised it smells quite strongly of smoke. It is hand wash only. I have hand washed it thoroughly using plain soap, and have hung outside to drip dry. With leave it out overnight and see ho it is tomorrow. I might try a little febreze on it too.

But does any have any other suggestions in case that doesn't work? Thanks.

Spray with a vodka solution (no, really) and hang to dry in the fresh air.

Works a treat!

Have heard of the vodka thing before, don't have any in the house (shudders at memory of misspent youth) but am sure I could get some and give it a go. It won't stairwell it? The jacket has a sort of peach skin finish so don't want to ruin it. It did cost £8 after all!

By stairwell, I do of course mean stain will..

When you wash it, the smell seems to come out as the water dries off. Hanging it outside is the best thing.

If it has lost its waterproofness, you may need to wash it through in warm water with no detergent and certainly no fabsoft. Traces of soap and detergent help water to get through.

Thanks, I didn't use fabric softener, hung it outside and now have it in a bag with tumble drier sheets! Will take it out tomorrow and hopefully it will be ok.
