Help! Sink still smells of DH's vomit!

DH overdid it a bit on Saturday night and vomited in our bathroom sink (walking past the loo en route Confused )

Any visible detritus has been cleared from the plug hole. It's been thoroughly cleaned and I put a drain cleaner down this morning hoping to clear anything stuck in the U bend. It still smells though!

Any idea what would be effective to sort this out?

It's probably caught up in the trap.
Get your Dh to disconnect it and clean it out.
You could try neat bleach first, but it is bad for the environment

I agree with him clearing out the u bend, and sorting any hair or whatever caught in trap, but I'd go with biological washing powder, or bicarb to clean with (him again also) rather than bleach.

He's away with work this week. Hmmm. I'll have a look to see if I can do that, I don't want to leave it until he's home.

Oh bugger.

I took it off which was quite easy. It was clean and odourless.

Now I can't get it on again without it leaking!

I can still smell it too!

washing soda, it's cheap too.
Pour the powder down the plug hole, slowly add water
my Grandma's guarantee, it does work x

I can't pour anything down there now! I can't get the u bend bit back on!!!!

I feel an emergency call to my plumber friend coming on Blush

Job done!

Plumber friend came around this evening and fixed it in less than 5 minutes Blush

I can still smell it! Bleach for the plug and overflow tonight.

Perhaps it's not the inside of the sink. Maybe he missed a bit when he was aiming...

I've thoroughly cleaned the sink, all around it, the cupboard below it (emptied it and cleaned it when I attempted the plumbing!) and the loo. The floor has been mopped. All towels and floor mats have been changed.

It seems less pungent today so hopefully it'll fade to nothing soon, probably just in time for DH's return on Friday!
