Does Febreeze actually work?

I've received something ordered from eBay and the material smells musty. If I liberally spray it with Febreeze will it actually take the smell away or is it all just advertising nonsense?

no it well smell worse. musty with chemicals on top.

As I suspected. Is there anything I can do or should I just send it back? It's supposed to be brand new.
