School name labels - HELP PLEASE!

Oh wise ones, help me please....

I usually do iron on, but the school now provides labels that have to be sewn on the outside.

Haven't sewn since school destroyed any thought of sewing with mind numbing needlework classes...

Can I buy a sewing machine to do name labels, or do I have to do them by hand?

(Hoping if I get a sewing machine with gadgets I'll actually like it......)

Too small & fiddly for sewing machines. I have one but I always so them by hand. Much faster & stronger.

That reminds me of a job that's yet to be done this week! Hmm

*do

I was so hoping you were going to say the opposite. Looked on John Lewis at the 'entry level' machines, and googled, but couldn't find a clear answer.

Oh why oh why...

Can you use WundaWeb to stick 'em on?

RainbowLoom · 27/08/2014 09:24

right - googling now...

Send the kids to a different school?! That sounds very prescriptive! I do a mixture of writing in biro on the existing labels (washes off eventually, but you can always write it again!) and hand sewing if unavoidable.

I do almost all labels on a machine, but it's only worth it if you've already got one an are fairly proficient in using it. If you're desperate enough to consider buying a machine, maybe it would work out cheaper/less stressful to get one of those dry cleaner/repairs/alteration places to do them? I know mums who do that, don't know the price though.

Send them to me for sewing? GrinGrinGrin

How old are your DC? I did my own from age 10.

I agree with viking, I think an alterations place would do it much more cheaply and with less faff than buying a sewing machine. You can machine stitch them if they are going in not-too-fiddly places, but I don't think sewing name labels is ever going to give you the sewing bug, even with a machine.
