a small cylinder vac will do. It does not need to have fantastic dust filters because it will mostly be outdoors, so the dust will not re-settle in your car. It does not need a big bag/bin because it will not be cleaning acres of carpet.

If it is noisy it will annoy the neighbours.

If you are buying one specially for the car/garage/shed, get a canister vac. They are very tolerant of grit, rubble and builders dust, and usually have a powerful suck.

I use my hand held dyson. It's good for the car.
It was expensive but very handy in the house.
The test is : would I buy it again ?YES.

I second the hand-held Dyson. We bought so many hand-helds before that conked out after a while. The Dyson is so powerful and we use it in the car the whole time. We used to get the car Valet-cleaned but there is no need now that the Dyson gives all its suction to it. The different heads are all used in the car. A worthwhile investment
