How to remove wax from hard surfaces

I thought in my wisdom I'd light a candle on the mantelpiece last night, cue dripped wax onto the black surround of my coal fire & onto the tiles of my fireplace. No idea how to get the wax off other than chip it off with my fingernails.

Any ideas?

Ive covered the wax with kitchen roll and melted it off with a warm iron when Ive blown a candle out and splattered wax up the wall. Have never managed to remove the grease spot from the paintwork but I imagine it would be easier on a tile.

Put some ice cubes in a plastic bag and hold/place on top of the wax. This will make it hard and brittle. Use a wallpaper scraper to scrape it off. This should be fine on the tiles.
