Getting smell out of second hand sofa

Hi, we've just bought a second hand corner sofa which was an absolute bargain (on a tight budget). Once we got it home we realised why it was so cheap, it smells of smoke and dog! Gave it a thorough Hoover, opened all the windows overnight and covered it liberally with febreeze and it's improved but still not ideal - any other ideas? The sofa cushion covers are removeable but I can't find a label saying whether they can be washed.

can you put it outside to air?

Unfortunately not as we're on the seventh floor!

Have you literally taken all the covers off and turned them inside out to see if you can find a label anywhere?

No wowfudge I assumed labels would be accessible, but I'll have a more thorough look. Ok bicarbonate of soda sounds good, does that absorb odour then? Will give that a go tonight.
