Oil on boardshorts help!

Bugger bugger bugger

I have oil from my bike on a pair of boardshorts. They're in a quick-dry stretchy polyester in a bright block colour, so I can't bleach them. Have washed once and it didn't budge. Argh - any suggestions?!

i dont know how well this works as i haven't tried it but my sister swears by it.

Take a piece of chalk and rub it over the stain then chuck in the wash with your normal detergent. Apparently leave the chalk on for a few hours before it goes in the wash. It will absorb the oil and then wash away in the wash.

apparently this works for oil stains on just about any fabric but you have to give it a good seeing to with the chalk.

I recently heard that rubbing Swarfega (a gel handcleaner used by mechanics and sold in Halfords) into grease before washing, does the trick. I have not tried it myself.

Usually, washing in water sets oil and grease stains, making them harder to get out with solvents or special cleaners, so you use the special stuff first.

this stuff is good- I have seen it in various supermarkets with the other washing stuff

I'd have a go with washing up liquid and water first though

I was going to say a wee drop of washing up liquid directly on the stain, then in wash mach.
Chalk sounds interesting. Will remember that.

Fairy liquid will dilute oil . Before you do anything put it on neat and agitate the stain . It should move providing it's fresh . Then wash them through .

Yes, Swarfega shifts bike oil so long as don't get it wet.
