How do I clean double sided tape off a wooden table :-(

Sigh ... we thought it was such a good idea at the time ... ds kept pulling the oilcloth off the table so we stuck it down. But now we are moving and the table belongs to the landlady - so how do we get the bloody stuff off without ruining the finish? The tape pulls off but leaves the glue behind ... ARGH

Rub it with wd40. Don't ask me why but it works.

You can buy a sticky stuff remover which is very good.

Do you think that wd40 might lift the polish off the table?

I suppose I could try it on an unobtrusive bit first - thanks for the suggestions!
