How to get car engine oil off ds' new £50 football shirt?

DS kicked his football under car last night, went under to get it and got oil on his brand new football shirt. I was out and he only told me about this tonight.

What would be the best was to try and get it out? Was thinking washing up liquid and cold water, or maybe a paste of bicarbonate of soda? I am frightened to do anything in case I make it worse. DS will be gutted if it doesn't come out.

Any thoughts very gratefully accepted!

Swarfega, from somewhere like Halfords or a DIY shop. It's supposed to be a hand cleaner for grease and oil but won't do a manmade fabric football shirt any harm. My mum used it several times when I did the same as your son! [tomboy emoticon]

Vanish have a special product for oil too, Vanish

They say not to put water on grease or oil until you've used a removal product in case it makes the stain set in harder, so bear that in mind regardless of what you use.

I second Swarfega - they sell it in the car things bit of our supermarket with eg WD40 and washer fluid.

Is also ace on grass stains.

Annoyingly, that is what DH suggested. I've never heard of it but will get some. Thanks.

Yes to Swarfega, brilliant stuff. My DM used to use it on anything & everything back in the day. It works better than anything you can find in the laundry aisle at the supermarket.

Swarfega got oil out of DH's ski jacket. Lovely stuff. Good luck.
