Meal ideas for new parents

I'm going to visit some friends this week, who have a four week old baby.

I'd like to take a meal with me, that they can reheat for dinner, but am a bit stuck for ideas.

The criteria:
easily reheatable
Transportable in ice cream tubs (don't want to leave them with dishes to worry about)
Hearty (he's a big eater, she's breastfeeding!)

I'd be grateful for any inspiration!

How about Lasagne, Shepherds pie, Cottage pie, Spanish style chicken, chorizo and bean casserole?

I would also suggest preparing it in those large foil takeaway style trays that can be put straight into the oven and then thrown away afterwards - no washing up for either you or them!

What a lovely thing to do for your friends. Smile

Also, you probably already have but worth thinking about the 'sides' so they have a full meal? We would always have lasagne with salad and garlic bread for example..

Lovely idea :)

My mil made us several cottage pies when we had ds. It was great as I could eat it by spoon while breast feeding and it was a full meal without having to worry about potatoes etc. also means if they have just done a big shop and have loads of food in they can just pop it into freezer.

Thank you for the ideas!
I wasn't sure about cottage/shepherds pie, because that's what they gave us for lunch last time we were there, and thought that might be weird?

Lasagne would be great, except its one dish I can never get right - it varies between dry as a bone and sloppy goop. Confused

Good point about sides, I'd thought of desert but not accompaniments. Grin

I'm thinking maybe chicken casserole and a giant bowl of mash. What do you put in your casseroles?

What about chilli and a pack of Tilda microwave rice?

RockCrushesLizard · 29/07/2014 16:45

I hadn't thought of microwave rice - good idea!

Meatball casserole! I brought this and a bag of fresh tagliatelle to 2 different friends with newborns. They both still rave about it. It's a great recipe though.

Oooh, meatball casserole sounds good. What's the recipe?
