I washed the carpet and now it smells

Child ran off with a mug of cold tomatoe soup... bleurghh and poured it on fawn colloured carpet, borrowed my friends VAX last night and its got most of the stain out (yipee) BUT the water coming out of the dirty tank was revolting, I went over the whole carpet about 6 times til the water was nearly clear, but this morning it really smells musty and like febreeze smell. Will this fade? Should I bicarb the whole lot?

Has it definitely dried properly?? If not I'd be tempted to make a vinegar/water mix in a spray bottle (unless you still have the vax there?) and spray the whole carpet, throw open as many windows as you can and give it a good air dry.

When I moved into my house it had a cream entrance and the same carperting throughout every room aside from the kitchen/bathroom (now thankfully replaced downstairs!) and I had to shampoo it. A lot. The only time it ever smelled was when I insisted on doing it one night about 48 hours before DS was born and it was too cold to air properly.

It's probably still a bit wet - wet carpet, even if clean, can stink a bit. Keep windows open and wait it out a while longer.

My carpet smells like wet dogs after shampooing and we dont have dogs .

You must air it out as much as possible.

Last time I used liquid ariel in my vax and it smelled wonderful whilt drying - though this is not recommended.

Bicarb gets rid of smells - you could try a solution of that somehow if smell doesnt go

In my experience it will still be damp. When we've had our carpets cleaned it's taken several days to dry out properly. Make sure no heavy furniture is on too of it stopping the air getting to it. See how it is later on in week.
