My washing machine smells....

I didn't realise that you should wipe the seal after use so that led to black mold. I got some of that cleaning and de calcifying stuff and did that on a very hot wash. All was fine and I've repeated every so often to keep things clean.

Last week I put a cleaner through and ever since the machine has had an awful smell - damp, musty as if a load of wet washing had been left in there. Before I put the cleaner in it was fine, apart from the black marks. I've tried leaving the door open but nothing works, my washing is beginning to smell AFTER a wash. Any ideas what it could be or how to solve it?

You could have a blockage in your inlet and outlet pipes or your plughole needs cleaning. I find cleaning the detergent drawer helps and setting the washing machine on a very hot wash with soda crystals (measurements are on the bag, found in the detergent aisle) inside the drum cleans it a treat. Good luck.

have you cleaned the filter?

You need to wipe everything you can find, remove the dispenser drawer and give that a good clean, clean the area that the dispenser drawer slides into, and finally run the longest hottest wash your machine will do with an old hand towel in there, using biological soap powder. Fixes most things. I presented this tip on SuperScrimpers and viewers really liked it!

Thank you all. I'm off to clean the filter (didn't know we had one!) and give everything a good clean out.

Does your washing machine feel warm / hot to touch when on a 60degree + wash I found that my machine was stinking and getting mouldy no matter how many times I cleaned it then felt the door when on a 90 wash and was stone cold.
the heating element was knackered and covered in scale . I had to have it replaced works perfectly and smells fresh when cleaned now . The manufacturers tend to use the most cheap elements from china in the machines so they don't last long worth a try xxx
