Fill your house with hunky firemen!

On the back of another thread, I just wanted to let everyone know that you can get the Fire Brigade to come to your house for a free home fire safety check. They are very nice, not preachy or judgmental but they'll give you lots of good advice, fit free smoke alarms and, if you're lucky, turn up with fire engine and full crew (in case of call out) which your children will love! We got a leaflet through our door but if you phone your local station, I'm sure they'd have the details.

Need to clear up a bit first , won't impress any hunky firemen at the minute (OK I know thats not the point of having them round but well!!)

We did this over the holiday. The fire engine was at the school fete and they were buttonholing people about home safety checks and I didn't feel able to say no. But they came, as you say with a full fire engine, and two of them came in. My 6 year old attached himself like a limpet to the head honcho as he did the checks and asked about window keys and all that. The other fireman fitted smoke alarms - we've already got two but he fitted them anyway - maybe they've got a quota to get rid of! And afterwards (took about 15 mins) they made the fire engine blue lights flash for the kids. No idea what the neighbours thought was going on but it's definitely worth it!

We did this last year, and they turned up just after DS1 had puked all down my front, (it was nice fragrant cheesy vom too. Yum) and they were all really old. I was v disappointed.

That said, they were very good and we got 2 lovely smoke alrms outr of it.

Someone call the Fire Brigade and warn them.....I feel there is going to be a surge on requests in the next couple of weeks!! I used to work for the fire brigade, many, many moons ago.

My dh is a firefighter - if you can find a hunky one you are very lucky lol!

I've had this done both at my present house and our old one. Unfortunatley, at our last house our next door neigbours house burnt down last year so I am extra cautious about this sort of thing.

My ds was so excited and followed them around the house and they also took him in the fire engine and turned on the lights!

neighbours wondered what was going on
especially as dh was at work

fullmoonfiend · 13/09/2006 17:40

There are no ugly firemen cod....

fullmoonfiend · 13/09/2006 17:41

(just ugly naked ones )

It's the uniform for me! (someone bought me a naked firemen poster once. Just didn't work for me, twas just middleaged mean with no clothes on..)

frumpygrumpy · 13/09/2006 20:26

I was always amazed at how fantastic my colleagues looked in uniform. AND how fantastically awful some of them looked out of it!! I had a huge crush on a colleague. He turned up at a wedding of one of our other colleages and his suit and shoes and socks were just....just......just.....well Russell Harty comes to mind. Bugundy coloured shoes, black socks, trousers that were just too short, a silver flecked suit and a tie too thin. I got drunk the following christmas and still snogged him though!!!!
