Removing chewing gum

DS managed to come back from a outing activity with chewing gum on his shorts. I scrapped off what I could and then put them in the freezer overnight but it didn't come off. I tried with a blunt knife but as the sorts are nylon type football shorts I am in danger of putting a hole in them without actually removing the chewing gum

Any suggestions?

You can buy removers - they're usually solvent-based I think. The one I have is called 'Sticky Stuff Remover' and is what I'd use if the freezer thing doesn't work. But tbh some materials seem impossible to remove gum from - not sure if nylon is one of them.
