Help -I need to make a 10 inch madiera cake and my recipe calls for 7 eggs - and I find I've only got 5. Would it work to use 5 and a bit more liquid - or do I have to go shopping?

you have to go shopping or next door to borrow eggs .. sorry

or you can make a victoria sponge instead which takes less eggs

Bother - thought so. No, It has to be a Madiera because it's going to end up a princess castle and sponge is too soft to carve! Thanks for the lightning fast response!!

I have an easy castle recipe that involves a square cake, swiss rolls and ice cream cones if interested

ie no carving

Can you use a smaller tin (say an 8") and do a 5 egg mixture?

Thanks all - I went out and bought eggs! Thanks for the offer but I've committed myself to the Debbie Brown Star Castle. I've got a long night ahead of me!
