How do you organise your fridge?

I'm trying to get organised with a weekly internet shop and clearing out the fridge the night before it's delivered.
Up until now things have been crammed in all over the place and I often forget I have things and then they get wasted.

Grateful for any fridge organising tips please.

Open door. Shove existing things to the back. Cram new stuff in.

Sorry, not very helpful. I think you are supposed to put meat on the bottom shelf in case any juices drip down.

Trampampoline · 25/06/2014 23:01

jeez, how big is your fridge?

CatKisser · 25/06/2014 23:04

Front = stuff I may eat or drink very soon
Back = stuff I didn't eat before i went bad but cant be arsed to dispose of.

I try to clean it before anything crawls out goes off. Then I carefully chuck things into it place things in correct order, with meat at the bottom. Grin

Dairy on the top shelf
Fish in date from left to right on the next shelf
Occasional sweet things and fruit on the next shelf
Veg on the top bit of the bottom shelf/potatoes in the salad drawer

HerBigChance · 25/06/2014 23:21

Door has jars, water filter.
Top door section has cheese.
Eggs go in the cupboard (a whoooole nother thread)
Butter in fridge on warm days; cupboard otherwise

damnandblast · 25/06/2014 23:23

Dairy top shelf.

Cooked meats/ready meals/snacks next shelf.

Drinks and miscellaneous.

Raw meat.

Veg in boxes at bottom.

This order does become less and less strict as the week draws on however Smile

mupperoon · 25/06/2014 23:26

In descending order through fridge:
Cheese, yogs, cream
Wine
Random snackery (pork pies, dips etc)
Meat drawer
Salad drawer (includes layer of green slime that was once a cucumber)
Veg drawer (root veg, may also contain green slime depending on levels of competence currently prevailing)

In door:
Chaos reigns. All bets off.

I've always wondered why veg goes at the bottom - shouldn't meat go at the bottom? But then there are those handy draws...

It is a source of much consideration to me.

In answer to the op, we have:

  1. Things in regular use - butter, cheese, salad
  2. Wine rack (often with other items balanced on that don't fit easily elsewhere e.g. quiche)
  3. Back up supplies of butter, cheese, yogurt
  4. Meat
  5. Veg and salad (in drawers)
